Rapid Compaction is a method connected to Dynamic Compaction that can be used to inrease the bearing capacity of soils through controlled impact.
The treatment is effective in the top layers typically up to 6 m depth, though improvements up to 9 m have been seen under certain conditions. A drop weight of 9 tons is dropped onto a foot assembly with a diameter ot 1,5 m, with frequency of 40-60 times per minute. The foot, which weights 5 tons, remains in contact with the ground during the whole procedure and prevents the appearence of seismic waves.
